Top 10 Races We Wish We Could’ve Done In 2013

I know, I know, we did PLENTY of races last year – but there are always so many more that we wish we could’ve done! Bubbles, zombies, 80’s, beer – if there’s a theme, there’s a race for it. Between jobs, training, and having a social life, it’s just impossible to do every race we want to all the time… maybe 2014 will be the year to try out some new, fun runs. Here are top 10 races we wish we could’ve done in 2013:

If you love glam and girl power, this is the race for you. It’s complete with feather boas, tiaras, roses, a bling-ed out shiny medal and champagne at the finish line! What girl wouldn’t like that? Find a Divas Half Marathon near you.

  I. LOVE. AVOCADOS. Maybe it’s because I live in California and they’re fresh and amazing all the time (see my favorite pre-run snacks, including avocado, here).  This half marathon coincides with the Avocado Festival in beautiful Fallbrook, CA. Running in beautiful scenery to a finish line where there’s a GUACAMOLE CONTEST? Done.

If you have met Erin, Deanna or me, then we’ve probably told you about the epic Ragnar adventure we had last year running from Miami to the Florida Keys. Ragnar is a 200 mile, 12 person relay race – 30+ hours of running, riding around in sweet white vans, and having the best time ever. There are Ragnar races all over the country, and I wish we could’ve done another one last year. It’s quite a production with airfare, gathering the team, getting all the supplies etc., but is SO worth it. Check out all these different Ragnar races – which one are you going to do?

“With its 50 miles of rugged coastline and more than 42,000 acres of sweeping valleys, rocky hillsides, and oak-covered plateaus, Catalina Island has long been one of Southern California’s most popular natural attractions.” Enough said. Run Catalina has a race for every runner – trail runs, ultra marathons, triathlons, and a half-marathon. Find your favorite & sign up here.

You’ve heard of the Electric Run. You’ve heard of the Color Run. But how about the    Neon Dash 5k? Think loud music, nighttime, neon glowing paint and black lights. I think any excuse to throw brightly colored paint everywhere sounds like a great time. Find a Neon Dash near you.

I love the Ugly Sweater Trend. Why not break out that ugly Christmas sweater for more than just one holiday party? Not only is this race festive, but “each Ugly Sweater runner receives a custom vintage knit hat, unlimited hot chocolate, two free Winter Lagers, Boston Lagers, or Angry Orchard hard ciders (if you’re of age of course!) and a mustache – yes a mustache.” Count me in for 2014! Find an Ugly Sweater Run in your city.

Escape the Nightmares 5k

Okay, okay – to be perfectly honest, this race kind of scares me – but hey doesn’t everyone need to step out of their comfort zone every once in a while?  We were schedule to run Escape the Nightmares in December, but it got reschedule. Prepare for “creatures and terrors that lurk in the darkness” during this 5K. If you come next year, we can hold hands and be terrified together.

We’ve always want to do a Rock ‘n’ Roll race, but the scheduling just hasn’t worked out yet. Here’s hoping for 2014! There are Rock ‘n’ Roll races all over the world, with 26 in the U.S. each year. The biggest perk about this race is the music all along the course, usually with big bands performing at the finish line. Find the closest Rock ‘n’ Roll near you.
