We at DoEpicRuns are 100% pro costume. We dress up at just about every race we attend. And we totally get that it can be hard to come up with original ideas for costumes (although we were pretty proud of the time we Rick-Rolled the Awesome 80’s Run) – there are only so many things to dress up as, and some are more popular than others. Here are our top 7 race costumes that you will be guaranteed to see at any event:
2) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
This one is difficult for me. I am actually OBSESSED with TMNT (I don’t go anywhere, race or otherwise, without my trusty Turtle Backpack), and I remember the first time I saw people in full on turtle gear I thought my heart would explode with joy. But seeing multiple groups of people at every single race dressed up as Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michaelangelo has kind of desensitized me to the awesome. It’s just too much of a good thing.
3) Copious Amounts of Neon
Tutus are baffling to me. Yes, they are kind of cute, but they are SO INCONVENIENT to run in. Taffeta + exposed skin = awkward.
5) Race T Shirts from the Race
I mean, I guess if you want to wear the shirt they give you at the race, that’s cool, but it’s like…. what did you wear here? Did you come topless?
6) Guy in a Speedo
Sometimes it works (kind of). But sometimes, it just really REALLY doesn’t.
7) Ironic Knee Socks
By far my favorite of all the overused race gear (seriously, you should see my collection). They have every type of knee socks that you can imagine (including Superman AND Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and you will see them all representing on race day.
Don’t get me wrong – I appreciate all of these costumes. The fact that runners are able to get out there and be silly and dress up is totally epic. But let’s try to think outside the box people! What costumes do you always see on race day? And what are some of your original ideas for costumes?
