It’s about that time – another Featured Epic Runner! Not only is Jennifer K. into running and races of all distances, but she does yoga, weight training, AND is the mother to 3 beautiful girls. Talk about a woman of many talents! She’s a great example of a runner that doesn’t make excuses and always makes time to workout.
We asked her a few questions – see her answers below! If you could see yourself being a Featured Epic Runner, please contact us HERE!
How did you get into running?
I was already teaching yoga and lifting weights. I wanted to add something new and challenging, so I started running.
Tell us about the first race you ever ran.
The first race I did was a 5k in Winston-Salem. It was cold and raining. I ran it with a friend who had been running for years who was kind enough to run with me and push me. It felt like it was so much longer than a 5k, especially since it was so cold and wet.
What struggles have you encountered during your training?
When I first started I struggled a lot with a knee injury from playing soccer. I actually considered stopping, but I was determined to not give up. I wear a knee strap and make sure to stretch real good.
What is your ultimate goal, and why?
I would really like to do at least one full marathon someday. I don’t run to win, I run to challenge myself – so I think doing a full marathon would be the ultimate challenge for me.
I get excited about a run because it’s another way to challenge myself. I am always trying to beat my time from the previous race.
What advice would you give to someone who is nervous about starting running or signing up for their first race?
I would say not to be nervous. The best thing about running is that runners come in all shapes, sizes and ages. You don’t have to feel pressure to win or beat anyone else. You can go out walk it, run it or do both. It can be a time when you can just be alone with your thoughts, or it can be a time when you are just having fun with friends.
Any epic runs scheduled for 2014?
So far I am signed up for one half marathon, but hope to sign up for three more. I am most excited about the Run or Dye 5k that I will do with my 16 year old. It will be her first 5k and I am happy that she choose me to do it with her.
