Hi everyone! My name is Deanna, and I am one of the founders of DoEpicRuns.com. Fitness, and running in particular, have changed my life in a major way.
Full disclosure: I have never been an athletic person. As an extremely accident prone child, it was hard enough for me to put one foot in front of the other; adding speed just seemed like an unnecessary risk. In high school, I shunned organized sports in favor of musical theater (unfortunately, “jazz hands” don’t burn many calories). And in college, while my more health conscious friends logged minutes on the treadmill, I logged minutes (and hours) at the local bar.
Fast forward a few years, and I was not a pretty sight. I was 25, fat and clearly an alcoholic. So I moved to California, got sober and my life started to come together. Boosted by a 10 lb weight loss (it’s funny how your body changes when you stop ingesting 3000 calories a day of straight booze), I started working with a trainer. As my body began to change, I got more and more hooked. I decided to add some extra cardio to the mix, and that, my friends, was when this runner was born.
I have been running for 2 years now, and it is one of the great joys of my life. There is nothing I enjoy more than taking off on a solo run and watching the sun rise on the beach, or crossing the finish line of a race with my best friends next to me, or the copious amounts of carbs I get to eat before a big race. 😉 Running is when I feel the most “me” – I feel alive in a way that is hard to put into words, but fills me with awe and gratitude.
When I’m not running, you can find me studying for my personal training certification, obsessing about zombies/the zombie apocalypse, re-watching or re-reading Harry Potter for the thousandth time or appearing in ska music videos.
